Life Changing Morning Routine

…. and give your morning a boost in the right direction

by Janny Jackson

Where are my fellow night owls at?! I don’t know about you, but I am not a morning person. Add in three little humans that wake up before the sun and have “1,000 % energy” as they say, and that’s all it takes for me to wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Would it help if I woke up before them? Possibly. Do I want or need to wake up before them? NOPE. I am thankful I have that freedom, to wake up a little slower than them, and I do these two things every morning that get me into the mind frame I need to be in as we start our day.

Get Ready FIRST

The very first thing I do when I roll out of bed is go straight to the bathroom and get myself ready. I brush my teeth, wash my face, apply all of my face products, brush my hair, and get dressed BEFORE heading downstairs. I have done this for years, but just the other day I really realized how much I NEED to do it first thing every day. It only takes me around 10 minutes to do and it really helps me to wake up and feel put together before spending the rest of the day caring for my little people. It is essential for me to wake up physically, but also essential for my mental health in that if I know I’m a bit grumpy from being woken up to arguing children or “can I have cereal” for the 20th time, I can mentally readjust my thinking and leave my bathroom ready to start the day on a positive note.

Open Up The Blinds

This is literally the very next thing I do after getting myself ready every morning. I go to all the bedrooms upstairs and open up the curtains and blinds, and then I do the same when I go downstairs. Again, this is something I have done for years, but didn’t realize it was something I needed until we lived in Michigan and it was dark for 10 months of the year. Research has shown that natural light has been proven to help with focus, improves mental health, reduces stress and anxiety, and increases happiness. I can personally attest to all of these being facts. It helps me to wake up and feel more alert as I get our morning started.

These two things don’t take more than 15 minutes every morning, and are essential to my morning routine as a stay at home/ homeschool mom.

What is your morning routine like? Tell me below, and of course thanks for sticking around!

Totally agree with getting “ready” everyday, even if I never leave my house, which is pretty typical of a SAHM. Walking by the mirror and seeing me in some normal clothes, my hair is brushed and I maybe have on mascara; it’s helpful to my self esteem as I’m just home day in and day out. I just make sure I don’t stop long enough to see the spit up on my shirt or the pimples on my face! 😂
I’m a window opener too and I head straight for the coffee machine! I like to wake up early just to have coffee before they all wake up!

    1. Yes! It makes such a difference to the start of the day! You’re doing great momma ❤️
